The challenge in the world of HPC is not anymore the availability of CPU power. There is almost infinite amount of CPU power available, as the unlimited capacity from Clouds demonstrates. The real bottleneck is in taking advantage of all that power, as applications have not been designed for scalable computing environments. Addressing this would require a massive application redesign and rewrite.
